Dr. Charles Giannasio, MD, DFLAPA

Clinical Psychologist
Sobriety Solutions of Pennsylvania

Charles Giannasio, MD, DLFAPA specializes in addiction psychiatry, general psychiatry, and psychoanalysis. He is Board Certified in both psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. After graduating cum laude from Villanova University, he attended Hahnemann Medical College where he completed his Psychiatry Residency. As a matter of happenstance, his interest in addiction psychiatry developed and equally coincidental, this occurred at the dawn of addiction psychiatry as a subspecialty of psychiatry. His psychoanalytic training and his training in, and practice of, addiction psychiatry both began in 1982. He has been active in organized psychiatry and psychoanalysis. This has included being on the Boards of the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia, the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, and the Philadelphia Psychiatric Society where he served as president. In 2002, along with several colleagues, he initiated the founding of the Physicians’ Study Group on Addictions. This is a local group of addiction psychiatrists and other interested professionals that present seminars by leaders in addiction psychiatry as well as addressing relevant political issues. He teaches Psychiatric Residents at Temple and Einstein. Dr. Giannasio has received numerous honors including the Practitioner of the Year, the Robert Jones Award, the Presidential Award from the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society, and most recently the Paul J. Fink Award from the Philadelphia Psychiatric Society.
